Concept/Process
Given the amount of information that the caller leaves, I would like to recreate their memories. Applying videography, photography, and sound – I will make artifacts that reflected the memory. I would like to group multiple memories to create a kind an archive, treating each artifact as though it was an anthropological specimen. Each memory's artifacts would be displayed differently depending on how the caller had initially described them. If the caller had emphasized the way something sounded, the magnitude of the sound would be vast. I am intensely interested in how memories are communicated and translated between people, and how similar experiences can be recalled through visual, auditory, etc. stimulation. Narrating stories is an effective means of communicating memories, but visual components would make the memory more tangible for the viewer to grasp.
I would like to have an array of memories, linked together (very much like the synapses of the brain), but presented like archival material. The 'please do not touch' mentality of the art objects that have been etched into our collective brains by museums is a notion worth pushing up against. I encourage you to participate in the work, and would love feedback - feel free to use the comment space below.
please note this is a work in progress
